Despite THE GOOD BOY being his first feature film role, Álex González earned a Goya Award nomination (the Spanish equivalent of the Oscar®) for Best New Actor for his protrayal of boxer / bankrobber Ángel.
Since then, he has gone on to star in several movies, among them A FRENCH ROSE, SUNDAY LIGHT and THE BOOK OF WATERS. Additionally, he has been a regular in several Spanish TV series, including: MOTIVOS PERSONALES, CUENTA ATRAS and LEX.
THE GOOD BOY Director Daniel Cebrián discusses the dedication of this incredible young acting discovery:
“Words aren’t enough to describe the way Álex prepared for this movie. He trained intensively for four months. A film shoot is a very, very hard thing. Well, I have to say that it was when shooting began that Alex began to rest. Before that, he used to run half an hour every morning, then lift weights for another two hours. Then he’d shower and get down to his own work. After that, he’d have something to eat, usually not much. In the afternoon, he’d do his four hours of rehearsal with the rest of the cast, before heading back to the gym. That would be followed by another two hours of boxing classes, then a punching work-out. You’re talking twelve to fourteen hours a day of strenuous activity. All of that on a very strict diet, under the watchful eye of a dietician. No sugar, no fat. He also cut down on carbohydrates. He’d have little more than smoked turkey and rice. He ended up with a level of body fat only top class sportsmen could boast of.”
