OUT OF SEASON
When Micki Silva (Carol Monda) struts into beautiful Cape May,
New Jersey - all leather jacket, Marlboros, and attitude - - she
thinks she knows what to expect. She's there to care for her dying
uncle, to forget about her photography career and her ex, and
then get out of town as soon as possible. But Micki's in for a
few surprises. Uncle Charlie (Dennis Fecteau) has his own plans
in store: to get Micki to settle down with his dear friend Roberta
(Joy Kelly), a conscientious forty-year-old cook harboring some
wanderlust of her own. Circling each one warily, the two women
gradually begin to woo each other with a passion and ambivalence
that will ring true for anyone who has ever thought they needed
to run away, only to discover themselves at home when they least
expected it.
"A strikingly subtle
love story, at once engaging, credible and satisfying."
- The Los Angeles Times
"Sexy and believable!
The actors are visibly thrilled to be playing confident and happy
lesbians. The sex is in the last five minutes, but it's worth
the wait!"
- LGNY, New York City
"Ms. Buck takes advantage
of the physical and natural attractiveness of Cape May, avoids
easy sentiment, resists the impulse to transform the difficult
Micki into a sudden bundle of radiant charm and lets Ms. Kelly
(Roberta) shine as a worthy object of love."
- New York Times
"Out of Season is
a dramatic powerhouse - stunningly acted, beautifully directed,
and resonating with depth and honesty. The acting and production
values are first rate."
- Metro Weekly (Washington, DC)
running time: 98 min.
