PARTY MONSTER - THE SHOCKUMENTARY

PARTY MONSTER – THE SHOCKUMENTARY, an Official Selection at 1998’s Sundance Film Festival, tells the story of the rise and fall of Michael Alig, a kid from middle America who aspired to be the #1 party promoter in New York City. But after spiraling into drug addiction, Alig brutally murdered his roommate Angel Melendez. Instead of becoming a fugitive, he capitalized on his newfound notoriety by boasting of the crime.

Against this twisted backdrop, the story of PARTY MONSTER– THE SHOCKUMENTARY unfolds, charting the growth of the Club Kids, infamous for their outlandish looks and outrageous behavior. On TV talk shows, Alig maintained that he and his Club Kids had created their own reality, a "surreality" without rules. But the charming freedom of this world soon mutated into something darker, a world in which getting away with murder would prove to be the ultimate thrill…

• Official selection at over 15 international gay & lesbian film festivals nationwide

• WINNER of Grand Jury Award at the 1998 LA Outfest International Film Festival

• WINNER of Best Nonfiction film prize at the 1999 USA Film Festival

The Washington Post

"Successful at evoking clubland’s breathless excitement, Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato contrive a slick, hip package in Party Monster, an undeniably riveting slice of urban life."
Daily Variety

"A top-notch, fast-moving expose- incorporating verite footage, bar butts and all, by the late, on-the-scene “video vampire” Neslon Sullivan”. A mesmerizing post-mortem of a thoroughly modern scene that wanted to be commercial and franchise itself… the documentary really gets into the Club Kids’ airheads."
